Senior Management Team
Joseph Julian, PhD
Partner, Senior Portfolio Manager, Head of Real Estate Investments
Dr. Joseph Julian is a Partner, Senior Portfolio Manager, and Head of Real Estate Investments.
With extensive experience in structuring and capital formation within the real estate sector, Joseph has managed over 3 million square feet of commercial real estate across diverse risk-return profiles, product types, and geographies. He plays a pivotal role on the investment committee, overseeing the firm’s real estate investments and contributing to product development and investment selection for institutional clients.
Before joining our firm, Dr. Julian was Director of Investments at Oppenheimer & Co., where he crafted and managed investment portfolios for the private client group with a focus on real estate and private markets. His responsibilities included sourcing, monitoring, and risk management, serving family offices, ultra-high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and endowments.
Previously, Joseph served as Head of Absolute Return Strategies at Witenberg Investment Companies / Properties Inc., overseeing a $5 billion portfolio of institutional assets. His role encompassed due diligence, operator/manager selection, and risk management across commercial real estate, real assets, private credit, hedge funds, and public and private markets.
Earlier in his career, Joseph was Lead Market Strategist at Thomas White Asset Management, where he managed the firm’s proprietary real assets portfolio and provided macro research and guidance on customized alternative investment allocations. His work emphasized non-correlation, risk factor diversification, and dynamic rebalancing.
Joseph attended UCLA, areas of study, math, econometrics and earned his Doctorate Ph.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego in Theoretical Physics with original research in DSP sound wave technology applied to music and acoustics. Joseph has received awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington D.C. and the 2013 Hedge Fund Institutional Advisor Award.
